Kaavalkaaran is a 1967 Tamil-language action drama film directed by P. Neelakantan and starring the legendary M. G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalitha in the lead roles. The movie was produced by R. M. Veerappan under the banner Sathiya Movies. The story revolves around a brave and honest police officer named Vijay (MGR) who is posted in a city plagued by organized crime. With his exceptional investigative skills and physical strength, Vijay puts a halt to the activities of the notorious local gang leader Rajan (Nagesh). However, Rajan's allies vow to take revenge on Vijay and his family.

Vijay's sister Geetha (Jayalalitha) is a college student who falls in love with a fellow student named Suresh (Sivakumar) and gets engaged to him. However, Suresh's father opposes the alliance due to Geetha's association with a police officer. Meanwhile, Rajan's henchmen kidnap Geetha and demand that Vijay release their boss from jail in exchange for her safe return.

Vijay sets out to rescue his sister and takes on Rajan and his gang alone. In a thrilling climax, Vijay fights off scores of goons and saves Geetha, but not without sustaining severe injuries. Suresh's father, impressed by Vijay's bravery, arranges for his daughter to marry him.

Kaavalkaaran stands out for its memorable performances, especially that of MGR. He portrays Vijay with conviction, exhibiting his trademark charm, wit, and action skills. Jayalalitha as Geetha is elegant and manages to hold her own against MGR. Even though the movie was released in the 1960s, the chemistry between the two leads is ahead of its time.

Apart from the performances, the movie's music by M. S. Viswanathan is also noteworthy. The songs, including "Azhagukkum Malarukkum," "Maalai Neram," and "Aadatha Manamum," continue to be popular among Tamil movie buffs even after more than five decades.

Kaavalkaaran also showcases some stunning action sequences choreographed by Stunt Shiva, including a memorable fight sequence atop a moving train. The camera work by V. Ramamoorthy adds to the movie's appeal, capturing the mood and tone of the story perfectly.

In addition to its entertainment value, Kaavalkaaran also tackles social issues, such as police corruption and the underworld's impact on society. The film presents a balanced view, portraying the police force's predicament while highlighting the need for transparency in law enforcement.

Overall, Kaavalkaaran is an excellent example of Tamil cinema's golden age, delivering action, romance, music, and social commentary in equal measure. Its compelling storyline, memorable characters, and outstanding performances make it a must-watch for fans of the genre and Tamil cinema enthusiasts alike.
