J.W. Coop is a 1971 Western film starring Cliff Robertson, Geraldine Page, and Cristina Ferrare. The movie follows the story of J.W. Coop, a rodeo cowboy who has just been released from prison after serving a five-year sentence for a bank robbery. Coop is determined to get back into the rodeo circuit and win the coveted All-Around Cowboy title, which he won before going to prison.

When Coop arrives back in his hometown of Oklahoma City, he finds that the world of rodeo has changed a lot in the five years he's been away. The horses are tougher, the competition is stiffer, and the fans are less forgiving. Coop soon realizes that he'll have to work harder than ever if he wants to make it back to the top.

One of Coop's biggest challenges is his estranged wife, Lisa (played by Cristina Ferrare). Lisa has moved on from Coop and is now a successful businesswoman, running her own rodeo company. She's also dating another rodeo cowboy, Les (played by R.G. Armstrong), who doesn't take kindly to Coop's return.

Coop tries to win Lisa back by entering her rodeo company's events, but he's met with resistance at every turn. Lisa wants nothing to do with Coop, and Les sees him as a threat to his own success.

Coop also has to deal with the disapproval of his family, who are embarrassed by his criminal past. His mother and sister both urge him to give up on his rodeo dreams and settle down with a regular job.

Despite all these obstacles, Coop remains determined to compete in the upcoming All-Around Cowboy competition. He trains hard, works odd jobs to make ends meet, and even gets into a few scuffles with other cowboys.

One bright spot for Coop is his friendship with Ruby (played by Geraldine Page), a former rodeo queen who now runs a cafe. Ruby admires Coop's determination and offers him words of encouragement when he needs them most.

As the All-Around Cowboy competition approaches, Coop faces his biggest challenge yet: a showdown with Les, who has been trying to sabotage Coop at every turn. The two cowboys face off in a series of rodeo events, including bull riding, calf roping, and steer wrestling.

Without giving away the ending, suffice it to say that J.W. Coop is a classic underdog story, with plenty of action, drama, and heart. Robertson gives an excellent performance as Coop, a man who's made mistakes but is determined to make things right. Page and Ferrare are also terrific in their respective roles, adding depth and complexity to the story.

Overall, J.W. Coop is a must-see for anyone who loves Westerns or sports movies in general. It's a timeless tale of redemption and perseverance, with a message that still resonates today.

J.W. Coop is a 1971 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 52 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.5.
