Just Like Heaven is a 2005 romantic comedy-drama film directed by Mark Waters and starring Reese Witherspoon, Mark Ruffalo, and Donal Logue. The movie tells the story of Elizabeth Masterson (Witherspoon), a successful young doctor who has recently been promoted to a prestigious position at a hospital in San Francisco. One night, after working a long shift at the hospital, she is involved in a terrible car accident and ends up in a coma.
Enter David Abbott (Ruffalo), a landscape architect who is looking for a new place to live. He visits an apartment that's available for rent and finds out that it's actually Elizabeth's apartment. Despite the lack of furniture, David decides to take the place and move in anyway. On his first night in the apartment, he is shocked to find Elizabeth's spirit there, seemingly haunting the place. She doesn't remember anything about her life or what happened to her, and she refuses to believe that she's dead.
David, at first frightened by her presence, eventually becomes intrigued and starts to believe that Elizabeth is actually there. He starts to investigate her situation and tries to uncover the cause of her coma. Along the way, he also discovers that Elizabeth was a workaholic and never really made time for love or relationships.
As they spend more time together, David and Elizabeth grow closer and start to have feelings for each other. But with Elizabeth being a spirit and David being a mortal, their relationship poses some difficult challenges. David tries to find a way to help Elizabeth come back to life, but others, including Elizabeth's sister Abby (Logue) and her former boyfriend, Richard (Ben Shenkman), are skeptical about his claims of seeing her ghost.
As the story unfolds, David and Elizabeth must figure out a way to be together despite the impossible odds. Along the way, they discover that love can conquer all, even in the afterlife.
