Jericho (2000) is an American Western film directed by Louis Morneau, starring Mark Valley, Leon Coffee, and R. Lee Ermey. The movie is set in the mid-1800s, and it tells the story of a man named Jericho who returns to his hometown in Texas after six years of being away. Jericho, a former Union soldier, is hoping to reunite with his sweetheart, but he finds that things have changed dramatically since he left.

As Jericho enters the town, he realizes that the entire population is now under the grip of a man named Alex (Leon Coffee), who is a wealthy and powerful rancher. Alex has employed a gang of hired guns to enforce his rule, and the townspeople cower in fear of him. Jericho is not intimidated, however, and he begins to take a stand against Alex's tyranny.

Jericho is helped in his quest by a former Confederate soldier named Jimmy (Mark Valley), who has his own score to settle with Alex. Together, they start to form a resistance movement, and recruit other disaffected locals to their cause. However, things become more complicated when the U.S. Cavalry arrives in town, warning Jericho and his allies to cease their activities or face punishment.

As Jericho and Jimmy continue to push back against Alex's goons, they realize that they need to find a way to even the odds. Jericho turns to his mentor, a former Buffalo Soldier named Joshua (R. Lee Ermey), for guidance. Joshua teaches Jericho and Jimmy how to use guerrilla tactics to fight off the hired guns and gradually weaken Alex's grip on the town.

Throughout the movie, Jericho faces personal challenges as well. He must grapple with his own sense of guilt over his role in the war, as well as his feelings for his long-lost love, Molly (Lisa Stewart). Meanwhile, his relationship with Jimmy is complicated by their differing backgrounds and loyalties, and they must learn to trust each other in order to succeed.

Jericho is an action-packed Western with plenty of gunfights and showdowns. The film explores themes of moral ambiguity and justice, as well as the larger historical tensions between North and South. At its heart, however, the movie is a classic tale of a lone hero standing up against corruption and oppression.

The performances in Jericho are strong, particularly Mark Valley as the titular hero. Valley brings a quiet intensity to the role, conveying Jericho's determination and inner turmoil with subtlety. Leon Coffee is a compelling villain, exuding both charm and menace as Alex. R. Lee Ermey, as always, is a standout in his supporting role, bringing gravitas and humor to the role of Joshua.

The film's cinematography is also noteworthy, with wide shots of the dusty Texas landscape and close-ups of grimy, sweat-streaked faces creating an immersive atmosphere of grit and danger. The score, composed by Don Davis, adds to the film's suspense and emotional resonance.

Overall, Jericho (2000) is an enjoyable Western with a compelling story and solid performances. It may not reinvent the genre, but it offers plenty of thrills and a satisfying dose of old-fashioned heroism.

Jericho is a 2000 mystery with a runtime of 1 hour and 41 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.0.
