Jack Brown Genius is a heartwarming and quirky film from New Zealand directed by Tony Hiles. Starring Timothy Balme as Jack Brown, the movie is a coming-of-age story that will leave audiences with a smile on their faces. Jack Brown is a young man who is not like most others his age. He is a genius, but he doesn't fit in with the mainstream schooling system. He lives with his mother, who is trying to make ends meet by selling herbal remedies, and his younger sister who is a little bit wild.

Despite his intellectual prowess, Jack is struggling to find his place in the world. At school, he is bullied mercilessly by his classmates who cannot comprehend his intelligence. In search of a more stimulating environment, Jack attends a lecture given by a renowned physicist, Dr. Parkin (Marton Csokas), and catches his attention with a challenging question. Impressed by his intellect, Dr. Parkin invites Jack to visit him at his laboratory.

At the laboratories, Jack meets another genius, Lisa, who is trying to create the world’s first artificial brain. Lisa is played by Nicola Murphy, and she brings a beautiful touch of vulnerability to the film. She is feisty and determined but struggles with her romantic feelings for Jack.

As the story progresses, viewers see Jack and Lisa journey through discoveries that change and shape their worldviews. They work together to complete a device which holds the potential to change not only the technology landscape of the world but carry wider implications that influence their present and future.

The film shows how the lives of the two bright youngsters intertwine with each other as they navigate their way through the challenges of youth, genius and emotions - both good and bad. The movie is compassionate in its portrayal of these two and attempts to humanize the often-stereotyped role of a genius.

Despite having a limited budget, the director has done an excellent job in creating an atmosphere that is both lighthearted and meaningful. The dialogue is witty and well-written, providing a gentle humor that is engaging and relatable. The film emphasizes the importance and beauty of intellectual diversity and the struggles of those who are labeled 'different'.

Apart from the excellent performances by Timothy Balme, Nicola Murphy, and Marton Csokas, the music also deserves a special mention. The soundtrack is refreshing and adds further depth to the movie's themes.

Overall, Jack Brown Genius is an inspiring movie that celebrates the brilliance of the young mind. The message of the film resonates long after the credits have ended. The story encourages viewers to embrace differences and appreciate the unique ideas that come with it. It is a story of hope, courage, and acceptance that will leave a positive impact on the audience's hearts and minds.
