It Came from Hollywood is a comedic tribute to some of the most hilarious and ridiculous B movies ever made, featuring some of the biggest stars of the 1980s. The film is a combination of clips from these old movies, as well as interviews and commentary from the comedic cast members Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Gilda Radner, and Cheech Marin.
The film opens with Dan Aykroyd and Cheech Marin working as ushers at a rundown movie theater. As they prepare for another slow day at work, they stumble upon an old reel of a bad B movie called The Brain that Wouldn't Die. They decide to play the movie for the few patrons who show up, and discover that their audience loves it, laughing and cheering at all the most absurd moments.
Inspired by this reaction, Aykroyd and Marin decide to create a show that features clips from many of the most ridiculous B movies ever made. They recruit their comedy friends John Candy and Gilda Radner to help them, and the four of them spend the rest of the movie introducing clips from classics like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, The Blob, and Plan 9 from Outer Space.
Throughout the movie, the quartet provides hilarious commentary on the movies, pointing out continuity errors, bad acting, and cheesy special effects, as well as enthusiastically pointing out some of the most ridiculous moments in each.
For example, when the clip from Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is shown, the cast can't help but laugh at the idea of a horde of bloodthirsty tomatoes attacking people. Similarly, they mock the terrible costumes in Plan 9 from Outer Space and the nonsensical plot points of movies like The Brain that Wouldn't Die.
Despite the silly nature of the movie, It Came from Hollywood is clearly a product of its time, and its humor may not land with modern audiences. The comedians' joking tone can come across as mean-spirited at times, and some of the jokes feel dated or even offensive by today's standards.
However, the movie is still worth watching for fans of classic B movies or '80s comedy. The clips from these obscure films are genuinely entertaining, and watching these comedic legends riff on them can be a lot of fun. It's also interesting to see how certain B movies have influenced pop culture over the years, such as the famous line "They're here already! You're next!" from Invasion of the Body Snatchers, which Aykroyd and Marin joke about during the movie.
Overall, It Came from Hollywood is a great showcase of some of the most ridiculous and entertaining B movies ever made, as well as a fun opportunity to see some of the biggest names in comedy at the height of their careers. Though it may not be a timeless classic, it's definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of these cult classics.
