In the small town of Rockford, Texas, the men have a problem. They're obsessed with their guns to the point where they can't go a day without carrying one. The women of the town are fed up with this obsession and decide to take action. Led by Cherry (Andrea Anders), the women organize a sex strike. They refuse to engage in any sexual activity until the men surrender their guns.
At first, the men don't take the strike seriously. They joke that the women will never hold out for long without sex. But as the days go by and the women remain resolute, the men start to feel the pressure. They begin to realize that they not only miss sexual intimacy, but they also miss the connection they had with their wives.
The town's mayor, Carl (Matt Passmore), is put in a difficult position. He sympathizes with both sides, but he isn't sure how to resolve the conflict. He also has his own personal problems to deal with - he's having an affair with one of his constituents and is struggling to keep it under wraps.
To make matters worse, the town's oldest resident, Mae (Cloris Leachman), has recently passed away. Her dying wish was for her family to scatter her ashes at the local lake. But when the family arrives in town, they are shocked by the sex strike and refuse to part with Mae's ashes until the conflict is resolved.
As tensions rise and the town starts to unravel, Carl must find a way to bring the two sides together. He turns to Cherry for help, hoping that she can use her influence to end the strike.
Is That A Gun In Your Pocket is a hilarious and poignant comedy that tackles the hot-button issue of gun control with wit and heart. The film cleverly uses a sex strike to illustrate how deeply entrenched gun culture is in some parts of America, and how difficult it can be to change people's attitudes.
The ensemble cast is fantastic, with standout performances from Andrea Anders as the determined Cherry, Matt Passmore as the conflicted mayor, and Cloris Leachman as the feisty Mae. The film also features a talented supporting cast, including John Michael Higgins, Horatio Sanz, and Lauren Bowles.
Director Matt Cooper has crafted a film that is both entertaining and thought-provoking. The script, by Cooper and his wife Andrea Grano, is sharp and insightful, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments as well as touching emotional beats.
Overall, Is That A Gun In Your Pocket is a must-see film that will leave you thinking long after the credits roll. It's a timely reminder that even in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges, it's possible to come together and find common ground.
