India is a sports drama film released in 2007, directed by Shimit Amin and starring Shah Rukh Khan, Vidya Malvade, and Sagarika Ghatge. The movie focuses on the story of a group of women from diverse backgrounds who come together to form the first Indian women's national hockey team. The film opens to a small village in Haryana, where the protagonist, Chak De! India's Kabir Khan (Shah Rukh Khan), was once a celebrated hockey player. However, 7 years ago, he was falsely accused of being a traitor and shamed the country after losing a crucial match against Pakistan. Now, working as a coach, Kabir is given the opportunity to redeem himself when he is asked to coach the Indian Women's hockey team.

Initially, the Women's Hockey Federation representatives are skeptical about hiring Kabir, given his past reputation. However, the women's team is facing severe criticism owing to their poor performance on the field, and the federation believes that Kabir can bring about a positive change.

Kabir's tenure as a coach begins with him sorting out the team's internal issues while simultaneously battling against the prejudices of the officials against his appointment. He meets the team members and learns that they come from different parts of the country, each with their ethnic and cultural differences. At first, the players are distrustful of one another and believe that their teammates are more of a threat than an ally.

Overcoming these initial barriers, Kabir manages to bring the entire team together, teaching them about the importance of trust, unity, and hard work. Along the way, he faces several challenges, including dealing with the ego clashes of some of the players, the constant criticism from the press, and the constant pressure to deliver a winning team.

The players, however, gradually start believing in Kabir's philosophy and start to gel as a team. It is then when the team gets the opportunity to participate in the World Women's Hockey Championship held in Australia. The Indian team enters the tournament as the underdog. However, they manage to make their way through the early stages of the competition, only to face an intense match against the Australian team in the semi-finals.

As the team is preparing for the semi-finals, Kabir is suspended by the Indian Hockey Federation for his alleged misogynist remarks towards the women's team. Despite his absence, the team manages to keep their focus and reach the finals, where they face-off against Pakistan.

The final game is a nail-biting showdown between India and Pakistan, with both teams fiercely competing for the championship. The Indian team, which was once divided, now plays as a united front, with each player showcasing their hockey skills and working towards a common goal. The tension continues to mount as the match progresses, and the outcome remains uncertain until the very end.

India is a beautifully directed film that manages to capture the essence of women's hockey in India. It showcases the women's struggle to fight against societal norms and their unwavering determination to overcome all odds. Shah Rukh Khan's portrayal of Kabir Khan is noteworthy, and the performances of the entire star cast are equally impressive. This film is not only an ode to women's hockey in India but also a symbolic celebration of the power of teamwork, resilience, and determination.

India is a 2007 drama with a runtime of 30 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 8.1 and a MetaScore of 68.
