Incontrol is a Canadian science fiction thriller movie, directed and written by Kurtis David Harder. The movie was released on August 21, 2017, and received positive reviews from audiences. The plot of the movie revolves around four university students, who develop a technology that enables them to enter into parallel dimensions. The students, Mark (played by Levi Meaden), Samantha (played by Anja Savcic), Hector (played by Justin Kelly), and Allen (played by Rory J. Saper) form a small group to develop an app, that they call "The Universe App".

The app has the ability to create alternate realities, which are entirely different from the real world. The four students, along with their girlfriends, Courtney (played by Sarah Troyer) and Yvette (played by Valerie Planche), test the app by entering into a parallel dimension. In this world, they find themselves to be successful and different than their real selves. For example, Mark is wealthy and famous, Samantha is in a happy relationship, and Allen is a skilled martial artist.

As the group becomes more addicted to the alternate world created by the app, they soon realize the consequences of their actions. They discover a moral dilemma when they realize their app has a bug that not only lets them enter parallel dimensions but takes over the hosts of those dimensions. Before long they lose track of how many beings they’ve supplanted and put enough people’s lives at risk they can no longer avoid their true potential.

The movie is well-paced and keeps the viewers engaged. The characters are well-developed and relatable. The cinematography and visual effects are excellent and add to the overall charm of the movie. The film carries strong metaphoric themes about individuality, identity, and morality which tie into conversations about internet privacy and individualism.

The movie also touches on heavy topics like depression, loss, and the dangers of addiction. The movie’s darker themes balance well with sci-fi moments and comedic relief which provides users with an emotional roller coaster. The central theme of the movie is clear: Be careful what you wish to be. While parallel worlds are fun to imagine, dipping our toes in such matters is only to be soiled by the ethical implications of our actions.

One of the strengths in the film is the acting by the cast. Specifically, Anja Savcic is outstanding as Samantha, bringing emotional resonance and nuance to her character. Sarah Troyer’s ability to express the anxiety of Courtney is fantastic, and Valerie Planche does an excellent job portraying Yvette, a middle-aged woman struggling to find her purpose in life.

In conclusion, Incontrol is an exciting and well-made science fiction thriller film. The intriguing storyline, the well-developed characters, and strong performances make it enjoyable to watch. The themes may hit home for many viewers due to the relevance for the masses in the 21st century. The combination of an intelligent script and a well-executed idea is meritorious of praise.

Incontrol is a 2018 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 22 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.3.
