In The Meantime explores the lives of four individuals who are going through their own personal struggles. The characters try to find a way to cope with their present circumstances, striving for a brighter future despite the challenges that they face. The plot follows the intertwined lives of these four characters, who all live in the same apartment complex. First, we meet Maya (Amani Marie Cain), a single mother who is struggling to provide for her daughter. She works long hours at a fast food restaurant to make ends meet, but often finds herself having to choose between buying groceries and paying the rent. Maya lives in constant fear of receiving an eviction notice and losing the roof over her head.
Then, there is Jamal (William Eric Anderson), a young man who is trying to turn his life around after a stint in jail. He is determined to stay out of trouble and make something of his life, but struggles to find a job and support himself. Jamal dreams of starting his own business, but lacks the confidence and resources to make it happen on his own.
Next, we meet Nina (Jenna Bryant), a successful attorney who seems to have it all - a prestigious job, a luxurious apartment, and a loving boyfriend. But as the film progresses, we see that Nina is struggling with her own fears and insecurities. She feels unfulfilled by her job and relationship, and wonders if there is more to life than just material success.
Finally, there is Marcus (Chris Ivory), a middle-aged man who has been left homeless after losing his job and falling into alcoholism. He spends his days wandering the streets, searching for a way to turn his life around.
As the film progresses, the characters begin to intersect and their stories become increasingly interwoven. Maya strikes up a friendship with Jamal, who helps her with her financial struggles and encourages her to pursue her dreams. Nina meets Maya through her legal work and is inspired by her resilience and determination. Jamal and Marcus cross paths and form a bond that gives Marcus the strength he needs to seek help for his addiction.
