I'll Take Sweden is a charming 1965 romantic comedy starring popular actor and comedian Bob Hope. The film tells the story of single father Bob Holcomb (played by Hope) and his teenage daughter JoJo (played by the lovely Tuesday Weld) as they venture on a summer vacation to scenic Sweden. Holcomb is a successful businessman who is frequently away on work trips and decides to take some time off to bond with his daughter. Upon arriving in Sweden, they are greeted by the beautiful and wealthy Britt-Marie Crawford (played by Dina Merrill), who happens to be the stepdaughter of JoJo's dead mother. Despite Holcomb's initial reluctance to spend time with Britt-Marie, they are instantly drawn to each other.
As their shared romantic chemistry grows, Holcomb must navigate a number of obstacles on his journey to win Britt-Marie's heart, including her disapproving father, the duplicitous behavior of her socialite friends, and the appearance of JoJo's mischievous friend who constantly schemes to sabotage the growing romance between Holcomb and Britt-Marie.
Along the way, the trio engage in a variety of hilarious adventures throughout the beautiful countryside of Sweden, including a wild ride in a hot air balloon and a high-stakes water skiing race.
The film is classic comedy at its finest, with Bob Hope's signature witty one-liners and physical humor entertaining audiences for decades. Tuesday Weld delivers a delightful performance as JoJo, capturing the essence of a teenage girl navigating unfamiliar territory, and Dina Merrill's charm and sophistication make her a perfect leading lady.
I'll Take Sweden is a lighthearted and breezy romp through the beautiful Swedish landscape, filled with laughs and endearing performances. It's a must-see for fans of classic romantic comedies and Bob Hope's inimitable comedic style.
