Directed by Paul Ziller, the film is set in Quebec, Canada, and revolves around a seismic event that triggers a series of catastrophic events that threaten the lives of the entire population. The movie opens with a scientist named Michael Webster, played by Brendan Fehr, who is studying seismic activity in the region. He discovers a strange phenomenon, indicating that the earth's crust is destabilizing and could trigger a massive earthquake. His findings are met with skepticism by government officials who do not believe that such an event could occur in the region.
Meanwhile, a family comprising family patriarch, David Hewlett portrayed by Wade Williams, his wife, Tia Tremblay played by Holly Elissa, and their two children, Alika Autran as Naomi and Jodelle Ferland as Willow, are enjoying their winter vacation in a remote cottage in the woods. They soon discover that something strange is happening in the forest. The ground begins to shake, and massive cracks appear in the ice. Shortly after, a devastating earthquake strikes the region, leaving them isolated in their cabin.
As Michael races against time to save lives and find his family, the Hewletts must fight for survival against a barrage of challenging conditions. They face extreme cold, dwindling supplies of food and water, and the ever-present threat of falling through the unstable ice. To complicate matters, a group of escaped convicts led by Bucky, played by Ryan Grantham, barge into the cabin seeking refuge from the sub-freezing temperatures.
In the midst of these perils, Michael and Tia join forces and attempt a rescue mission to save David, Naomi, and Willow. Their journey takes them through frozen lakes, dense forests, and treacherous mountains, where they endure near-death experiences as they fight to stay alive.
