I Love You to Death is a pitch-black comedy directed by Lawrence Kasdan and released in 1990. The film follows the true story of a married couple, Joey and Rosalie, who are struggling to keep their relationship afloat due to Joey's numerous infidelities. However, things take a dark turn when Rosalie discovers Joey's latest mistress and decides to take matters into her own hands.

The film stars Kevin Kline as Joey, a charismatic but unfaithful husband who can't seem to stay away from other women. Tracey Ullman plays Rosalie, Joey's loving and loyal wife who is pushed to the brink by his constant cheating. William Hurt appears as Harlan, a womanizing bartender who becomes Joey's confidant and partner in crime.

The movie starts with Rosalie discovering that Joey has been unfaithful yet again. She confronts him but instead of apologizing, he dismisses her concerns and continues with his extramarital affair. Frustrated and heartbroken, Rosalie decides to go to Joey's mistress's apartment to confront her. However, when she arrives, she discovers that Joey's lover is a young and innocent woman who had no idea Joey was married.

Feeling sorry for her, Rosalie invites the girl over to dinner to get to know her better. However, when Joey arrives, he becomes enraged at Rosalie's attempts to befriend his mistress and physically abuses her. This is the last straw for Rosalie, who realizes that she needs to take drastic action to protect herself and their children.

Rosalie reaches out to Harlan, a bartender and acquaintance of Joey's, for help. Unbeknownst to Rosalie, Harlan is also a serial womanizer and sees an opportunity to get closer to Joey's women. With Harlan's help, Rosalie begins to plot Joey's murder.

The movie then takes the viewer on a darkly comedic journey of murder attempts and cover-ups as Rosalie and Harlan work together to try and kill Joey. However, their efforts repeatedly fail as Joey proves to be more resilient than they expected.

Throughout the film, the viewer is kept on their toes as they watch the trio's twisted and often hilarious attempts to kill Joey. The humor of the film is derived from the absurdity of the situations Rosalie and Harlan find themselves in, as well as the characters' comically exaggerated personalities.

Ultimately, the film is a commentary on the extremes people will go to in the name of love, and the consequences that come with taking things too far. The story is based on a real-life crime, which makes the humor and absurdity all the more shocking.

Overall, I Love You to Death is a dark comedy that manages to balance humor and suspense while still staying true to the underlying seriousness of its subject matter. With a talented cast and clever script, it's a film that is both enjoyable and thought-provoking, and definitely worth a watch.

I Love You to Death is a 1990 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 36 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.4 and a MetaScore of 45.
