I Am Here is a science-fiction drama movie from 2014 that consists of a sublime cast that features Liam Cunningham, Michelle Fairley, and Edward Hogg. The movie is directed by Anders Morgenthaler, and the story is written by Morgenthaler and Mette Heeno. The movie introduces us to the life of Maria (Kim Basinger), a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Maria is portrayed as self-made woman, bringing her company to a position of success and power through her dedication and hard work. However, her seemingly perfect life starts to unravel when her daughter Lisa dies under tragic circumstances.

Maria, who was already battling depression, finds it hard to cope with the death of Lisa and starts to withdraw from the world. She becomes obsessed with the idea of reincarnation and starts to visit a medium (Anouk Wagener) who claims that she can communicate with the dead. After several sessions with the medium, Maria arrives at the understanding that Lisa has been reincarnated and is living somewhere in Morocco.

Determined to find Lisa, Maria sets out on a journey across Morocco. In her quest to reconnect with her daughter, Maria has a chance encounter with a young orphan boy, Bilal (Jordan Prentice). Bilal is a charming and intelligent boy who is also deaf. Maria's interaction with Bilal deepens her resolve to find Lisa and reconnect with her. Through her encounters with other people she meets on her journey, Maria slowly starts to let go of her preconceived notions and beliefs, and as she does so, she opens herself up to experience true connections and emotions.

I Am Here is a story of self-discovery, and the cast delivers outstanding performances throughout the film. The cinematography is excellent, capturing the beauty of Morocco as seen through the eyes of Maria. Anders Morgenthaler creates a wonderful balance between the grittier and more authentic moments of the movie and the more surreal and fantastical moments.

The journey Maria takes is a physical one, but it is also a mental and emotional one. It is a journey of letting go, of coming to terms with loss and grief, and of learning to trust in new experiences and emotions. As Maria moves across Morocco, she interacts with people from all walks of life, each with their own stories and experiences. These interactions help her to come out of her shell and see the world from different perspectives.

One of the standout moments of the film is the interaction between Maria and Bilal. The chemistry between Kim Basinger and Jordan Prentice brings a sense of sincerity and vulnerability that is rarely seen in movies. The sweet and innocent relationship between the two characters brings a sense of tenderness and warmth to the film, and their scenes together are the highlight of the movie.

Overall, I Am Here is a beautifully crafted and poignant movie that aims to explore the complexities of life and loss. The movie dives deep into the complexities of human emotions and shows how even in the darkest moments, we can find light and hope. The journey Maria takes, the people she meets, and the relationships she forms are all a reminder of the beauty of life and the importance of connection.
