House of the Black Death is a 1971 horror movie starring Lon Chaney Jr., John Carradine, and Andrea King. Directed by Harold Daniels, the movie follows a group of relatives who journey to a remote estate to claim their inheritance. However, they soon discover that the estate is haunted by the ghosts of their ancestors who were practitioners of black magic.

The movie begins with the arrival of three distant relatives at the estate: Mark (Russ Bender), Laura (Andrea King), and Simon (John Carradine). They have come to claim their share of the inheritance left by their ancestor, the notorious sorcerer Count Sinistre. Sinistre was burned at the stake 300 years ago for his witchcraft and black magic. The relatives, we are told, have each been summoned to the estate to claim their share of his estate.

Soon, they discover that the estate is haunted by the ghosts of their ancestors, who were notorious sorcerers and devil worshipers themselves. The ghosts attempt to initiate the new inhabitants into their world of black magic.

One of the relatives, Mark, is skeptical of the supernatural, but the others are more receptive. They start to experience terrifying visions, including witches and undead creatures. They even begin to communicate with the spirits through a Ouija board.

As the days pass, the relatives learn more about their sinister heritage and the dark secrets of their ancestors. Meanwhile, the ghosts become increasingly aggressive and violent, bringing the newcomers closer to death.

The movie boasts some strong performances from its cast, especially Lon Chaney Jr. who plays Dr. Mallory, the family's lawyer. Chaney's portrayal of the lawyer is one of his best, as he exudes both authority and menace.

John Carradine also delivers a strong performance as Simon, the patriarch of the family. He brings a certain gravitas to the role, lending credibility to the family's supernatural connection.

Andrea King plays Laura, the only female relative, who is more open to the supernatural than her male counterparts. King is somewhat constrained by a limited role, but she still manages to bring a certain depth to her character.

The film also features some impressive cinematography, with excellent use of lighting and shadow to create an eerie atmosphere.

The special effects are somewhat dated by today's standards, but they work well enough for a movie made over 50 years ago. The film embraces its low-budget roots, making effective use of the few resources available to it.

Overall, House of the Black Death is a solid horror movie that is worth watching for fans of classic horror. The atmosphere is creepy, and the performances are strong. While the movie may not be as well-known as some of the horror films of its time, it still offers plenty of scares, making it a worthwhile addition to any horror movie collection.

House of the Black Death is a 1965 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 15 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.3.
