In Hotel Transylvania 2, Dracula's popular resort for monsters is now open to human guests, which spikes the anxiety levels of the Count. He's worried that his half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn't going to follow in his vampire footsteps. So, while Mavis is on vacation in Hawaii with Johnny, Drac enlists his buddies - Frank, Murray, Wayne, and Griffin - to put Dennis through a "monster-in-training" boot camp.
While Drac's old-school tactics don't seem to be working, his grumpy and overly-critical father, Vlad, unexpectedly visits the hotel. He's upset that monsters are now embracing humans instead of scaring them away. Meanwhile, Mavis is surprised to find out that her father-in-law is Drac's father, which results in hilariously awkward interactions between the two.
As Vlad becomes more and more disapproving of the hotel's human-friendly ways, he discovers that his great-grandson, Dennis, is not a pure-blooded vampire. This sets off a chain of events that leads to a climactic monster-vs-human battle in Transylvania that ultimately proves whether humans and monsters can coexist.
In addition to the core cast of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, and Selena Gomez, the film features the voice talent of Kevin James, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Keegan-Michael Key, and Mel Brooks as Vlad. The animation style of the film is visually stunning and the character designs are both original and endearing.
Hotel Transylvania 2 is a heartwarming comedy that tackles universal themes such as identity and acceptance in a fun and engaging way. While it's geared towards kids, adults will also appreciate the clever jokes and the nostalgic feel of classic monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolfman. Overall, it's a worthy sequel to the first Hotel Transylvania that manages to build on the original while delivering a fresh and entertaining story.
Hotel Transylvania 2 is a 2015 animated movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 29 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.6 and a MetaScore of 44.
