Hot Rod was released in August 2007. It is a PG-13 comedy. The original writing by Pam Brady intended for the lead male role to be played by Will Ferrell. This role was eventually cast with Andy Samberg. The plot of the movie surrounds the belief by the lead actor that his father was a stuntman. He believed that his father worked for Evel Knievel.
The character played by Samberg moves along a path that he believes will land him a career as a stuntman like his father. This path entails a moped and a series of attempts to replicate some of the famous jumps that Knievel made during his career.
Couple some hilarious falls and spills with a rag tag group of followers/friends, a bitter step father who constantly professes how stupid and useless the lead character is, and there is a comedy plot waiting to happen. Sparring matches and even a near death experience lead to a heart warming but funny end. The step father finds himself needing a heart surgery and the lead character has a plan to get him it. An elaborate jump is planned to raise the money.
Hot Rod is a 2007 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 28 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.7 and a MetaScore of 43.
