Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil is a 2011 animated comedy-adventure film that follows the beloved Little Red Riding Hood (voiced by Hayden Panettiere) as she embarks on a mission to rescue Hansel and Gretel, who have been kidnapped by an evil witch named Verushka (voiced by Joan Cusack). In this sequel to the 2005 film Hoodwinked!, Little Red Riding Hood teams up with the Wolf (voiced by Patrick Warburton), Granny (voiced by Glenn Close), and a host of other quirky characters to navigate a forest filled with danger and deception. As they race against the clock to save Hansel and Gretel, our heroes must outwit Verushka and her band of minions, who will stop at nothing to keep the siblings captive.
The film is directed by Mike Disa and features an all-star cast, including Martin Short, Andy Dick, Brad Garrett, David Alan Grier, and Amy Poehler. The animation style is based on traditional hand-drawn techniques, with a modern twist that incorporates computer-generated imagery for added depth and detail.
One of the standout features of Hoodwinked Too! is its self-referential humor and playful nods to classic fairy tales. For example, the film opens with a tongue-in-cheek reimagining of The Three Little Pigs, in which the pigs are shown to be savvy entrepreneurs who have turned their straw house into a successful souvenir stand. Later on, we see Little Bo Peep as a hard-boiled detective, complete with fedora and trench coat.
Despite its lighthearted approach, Hoodwinked Too! does not shy away from high-stakes action and suspense. The chase scenes are particularly thrilling, with Little Red Riding Hood careening through the forest on a motorcycle and the Wolf using his grappling hook to swing from tree to tree. The film also features a number of musical numbers, including a lively rap battle between the Wolf and one of Verushka's henchmen.
Throughout its runtime, Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil manages to balance humor, action, and heart in equal measure. Little Red Riding Hood's determination to rescue Hansel and Gretel is inspiring, and her relationships with the other characters are nuanced and engaging. The Wolf, in particular, is a standout character, providing comedic relief while also proving to be a valuable asset to the team.
Overall, Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil is a fun and entertaining film that is sure to delight audiences of all ages. Its combination of classic fairy tale elements with modern humor and high-stakes adventure make it a worthy successor to the original Hoodwinked!, and its talented cast of voice actors bring the characters to life in a truly memorable way. Whether you're a fan of animated movies, action-adventure stories, or just good old-fashioned comedy, Hoodwinked Too! is definitely worth a watch.
