In the movie Honeyspider, the year is 1989 and Jackie Blue (played by Samantha Mills) is a college student who works at a video rental store. She's enjoying a night out with her friends on Halloween when she meets a mysterious stranger named Professor Kapps (played by Frank Aard). He offers to take her to a party at the local hotel and she excitedly agrees, but things begin to take a strange turn once they arrive.
The party is filled with eccentric guests, including a fortune teller named Auntie (played by Joan Schuermeyer) and a couple of drug dealers who seem to know more than they're letting on. Jackie quickly realizes that something is amiss and she starts to investigate, but her inquiries are met with resistance from the other partygoers.
As the night wears on, Jackie begins to experience bizarre hallucinations and visions. She sees a ghostly figure dressed in a spider costume, which she later learns is known as the Honeyspider. The legend of the Honeyspider is said to haunt the hotel on Halloween night and bring death to those who cross its path.
As Jackie delves deeper into the mysteries surrounding the party and the Honeyspider, she uncovers a dark and twisted conspiracy involving a cult of devil worshippers. Can she uncover the truth before it's too late?
Honeyspider is a suspenseful and atmospheric horror movie that pays homage to classic 80s films like Halloween and Suspiria. The film's retro aesthetic and synth-heavy soundtrack make for a truly immersive experience, transporting audiences back to a time when horror movies were genuinely scary.
Director Josh Hasty does a great job of building tension throughout the film, gradually ramping up the scares until the final, bloody showdown. The cast all give solid performances, but it's Samantha Mills who really shines as the plucky protagonist Jackie.
Overall, Honeyspider is a great addition to the horror genre and a must-watch for fans of classic films like The Shining and Rosemary's Baby. It's a haunting and atmospheric film that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
Honeyspider is a 2014 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 16 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.3.
