Hollywood Warrioress is a 2014 independent action-fantasy film directed by Christine Dupree and Deborah Dutch. The movie tells the story of a powerful fighting woman, Christine Dupree (played by Dutch), who is forced out of semi-retirement by the kidnapping of her sister (played by Angelica Drum Andrews). Set in Los Angeles, the film is a non-stop action thriller that takes viewers on a journey into a mystical underworld that exists beneath the city. The story revolves around the quest to find Christine's sister, who is taken by a shadowy organization that has been kidnapping and experimenting on women.
As the movie progresses, it becomes clear that the organization is attempting to create a superhuman army of women capable of ruling the world. Christine goes on a rampage, fighting off an army of bad guys and monsters to rescue her sister and put an end to the evil plan.
Along the way, Christine crosses paths with a group of unlikely allies, including a detective (played by Edward X. Young) who is investigating the kidnappings, a team of tough female fighters, and an assortment of other characters who help her in her mission.
Shot on a limited budget, Hollywood Warrioress packs a punch with its high-energy fight scenes and visual effects. The film showcases some great martial arts and weapons work, as well as some impressive CGI sequences.
The film has a dark and gritty tone, with an urban gothic feel. The city of Los Angeles is transformed into a landscape of danger and peril, with the camera capturing the city's underbelly in a way that is both immersive and creepy.
Deborah Dutch delivers a solid performance as the kick-ass heroine, Christine Dupree. She is confident and fierce, and her character is a refreshing departure from the typical damsel in distress that we see too often in action-fantasy films.
Edward X. Young also gives a strong performance as the detective, adding some much-needed levity to the dark and intense story. His character's dry wit and no-nonsense attitude make him a great foil for Christine, and their interactions bring some much-needed humor to the film.
Angelica Drum Andrews is also good as Christine's sister, although her role is somewhat limited in scope. She is the catalyst for the story, but beyond that, she doesn't have a lot to do.
Overall, Hollywood Warrioress is an entertaining film that delivers exactly what it promises: non-stop action with a strong female lead. While the movie has its flaws (the acting of some of the secondary characters is uneven, and the story is sometimes hard to follow), it is a fun ride that is sure to please fans of the genre.
Hollywood Warrioress is a 2016 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 32 minutes.
