Hit Me is a crime drama film directed by Steven Shainberg and released in 1996. The movie tells the story of Sonny (played by Elias Koteas), a petty criminal who gets involved in a dangerous and complex scheme that involves blackmail and murder. Sonny is a self-loathing criminal who has no moral compass and is in constant need of money to support his drug habit. He is introduced to a mysterious woman named Elaine (played by Laure Marsac) who offers him a job as an assistant. The job involves following her around and filming her sexual encounters with wealthy and powerful men, with the goal of later using the footage to blackmail them.

The plan seems simple enough, but things quickly spiral out of control. Sonny becomes obsessed with Elaine and is drawn deeper into her twisted world. He soon finds himself caught up in a web of deceit and betrayal, with dangerous consequences.

As the plot unfolds, Sonny's past is revealed, and we learn that he has a tragic history that has left him emotionally scarred. We see Sonny struggle with his addiction and his demons, and witness how his flawed character leads him down a path of destruction.

The movie is intense and dark, with a strong sense of foreboding throughout. The viewer is constantly on edge, wondering what will happen next and how the characters will react.

The acting in Hit Me is exceptional, particularly Elias Koteas' portrayal of Sonny. Koteas manages to convey the character's complexity and vulnerability, making him both sympathetic and repulsive at the same time. Laure Marsac also does an excellent job as the seductive and manipulative Elaine.

The film's cinematography is another standout feature. The movie has a gritty and raw feel, with lots of close-ups and handheld shots that add to the sense of urgency and tension. The use of light and shadow is also notable, with many scenes set in dimly lit rooms or on dark streets.

Hit Me is a film that will leave you with a lot to think about. It explores themes of addiction, morality, and the corrupting nature of power. It shows us how people can become trapped in their own flaws and how even the smallest choices can have far-reaching consequences.

Overall, Hit Me is a gripping and thought-provoking movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Its compelling story and outstanding performances make it an underrated gem of 90s cinema. If you're a fan of crime dramas or psychological thrillers, this is definitely a movie worth checking out.
