Hera Pheri is a cult classic Bollywood comedy movie released in the year 2000. The movie features an ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal in the lead roles. The film was directed by Priyadarshan and produced by A.G. Nadiadwala and Keshu Ramsey. The story revolves around three unlikely individuals, Raju (Akshay Kumar), Shyam (Suniel Shetty), and Baburao Ganpatrao Apte (Paresh Rawal), who are desperately in need of money. Raju, an unemployed youth living in Mumbai, is constantly faced with financial problems owing to his frivolous spending habits. Shyam, on the other hand, is an honest worker who has recently lost his job due to the company's bankruptcy. Baburao is a dim-witted but cunning landlord, who is deep in debt.
One day, Raju discovers a wrong number that a certain Deviprasad (Gulshan Grover) dials looking for "Kabira speaking." Raju, thinking on his feet, pretends to be Kabira and soon realizes that Deviprasad is offering a large sum of money for a kidney transplant. Raju and Shyam hatch a plan to fake a kidney transplant and collect the money from Deviprasad. However, things take a turn for the unexpected as they unknowingly involve Baburao in their scheme.
The trio embarks on a hilarious and chaotic adventure as they try to keep the scam going without getting caught by Deviprasad or the police. The movie also features some iconic comedic moments such as Baburao's infamous dialogue "Paanch rupaiya barah aana" and the scene where the trio try to fish out a ransom note.
The chemistry between the three main leads is impeccable, and their performances are top-notch. Akshay Kumar is charming as the smooth-talking Raju who can talk his way out of any situation, while Suniel Shetty plays the straight man to Akshay's antics. However, it is Paresh Rawal who steals the show with his impeccable timing and delivery as the bumbling but cunning Baburao. The supporting cast, including Tabu and Om Puri, also deliver solid performances.
The movie also has some great music, composed by Anu Malik, including the iconic "Denewala Jab Bhi Deta" and "Jab Bhi Koi Haseena."
Hera Pheri was a game-changer in Indian comedy cinema, and it remains a cult classic to this day with its witty writing, memorable performances, and iconic dialogues. The movieâs success led to a sequel called Phir Hera Pheri in 2006, which was also a huge hit in Indian cinemas.
