Hellgate from 1989 is a horror-adventure film directed by William A. Levey. Starring Ron Palillo, Abigail Wolcott, and Carel Trichardt, the movie tells the story of a group of college students who stumble upon a town haunted by a vengeful ghost. The film starts with a group of college students, including Matt (Ron Palillo), Sarah (Abigail Wolcott), and Chuck (Joel Levy), traveling through the Californian countryside. They get lost and end up stopping at a deserted gas station, where they meet a strange man named Winslow (Petrea Curran). Winslow tells them about the nearby town of Hellgate, a place that is rumored to be cursed.

Despite the warnings, the group decides to visit Hellgate, hoping to find adventure and excitement. When they arrive, they find the town to be deserted, with no signs of life anywhere. As they explore the town, strange things start to happen. They hear eerie whispers and see ghostly apparitions.

They soon discover that the town is haunted by the vengeful spirit of a young girl named Mary Parker (Joanna McIntyre), who was accused of practicing witchcraft and burned at the stake in the 1800s. Mary's ghost seeks revenge on the townspeople who wronged her, and her wrath extends to anyone who enters Hellgate.

As the college students try to find a way out of the cursed town, they encounter a number of obstacles. They encounter a group of cultists led by the sinister Sheriff (Carel Trichardt), who is in league with Mary's ghost. They also encounter a group of bikers, who are similarly trapped in Hellgate and are trying to find a way out.

As the night wears on, the college students become more and more desperate to escape Hellgate. They quickly realize that the only way out is to face the ghost of Mary Parker head-on.

The film is a mix of horror and adventure, with a dash of comedy thrown in for good measure. The performances are solid, with Ron Palillo delivering a particularly enjoyable performance as the hapless Matt. Joanna McIntyre also shines as the vengeful Mary, delivering a suitably creepy and chilling performance.

The film's visual effects are somewhat dated, but they still manage to create an eerie and unsettling atmosphere. The movie's soundtrack is also effective, with a number of spooky and unsettling pieces that enhance the film's horror elements.

Overall, Hellgate is an enjoyable horror-adventure film that manages to mix scares and humor in a satisfying way. While it may not be the most memorable horror film of the 1980s, it's still worth a watch for fans of the genre.

Hellgate is a 1989 comedy. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.6.
