This documentary examines the rise and fall of Weequahic High School in Newark, New Jersey, once considered among the top schools in the country, prior to the Newark riots that occurred in 1967. At the start of the 21st century, roving gangs seem to have taken over the school. But the administrators of Weequahic, its current students and its alumni, who include many famous and successful individuals such as writer Philip Roth, take decisive action to help turn things around. They raise hundreds of thousands of dollars through their alumni to help restore the failing school to its glory days.
