Head of State is a 2003 political comedy film, directed by and starring Chris Rock, with Bernie Mac and Lynn Whitfield also appearing in lead roles. The movie follows Mays Gilliam (Chris Rock), a Washington, D.C. alderman who suddenly finds himself running for President of the United States. After the original presidential candidate dies, Mays is chosen as the replacement candidate by the chairman of his party (James Rebhorn). Mays, who is initially reluctant to run for office, realizes that his campaign could shake up the status quo and give a voice to the underrepresented African American community. He agrees to run for President and selects his older brother Mitch (Bernie Mac) as his running mate.

Despite the odds against him and the skepticism of the political establishment, Mays embarks on a whirlwind campaign through the country, speaking to crowds and giving speeches that resonate with the people. Mays and Mitch attract a diverse group of supporters, ranging from young activists to working-class families to the elderly.

As Mays' campaign gains momentum, he clashes with his opponent, incumbent Vice President Brian Lewis (Nick Searcy), who represents the entrenched interests of the country's elites. Along the way, Mays also deals with a number of personal issues, including a budding romance with his beautiful campaign manager, Lisa (Tamala Jones), and the disapproval of his mother Debra (Lynn Whitfield), who feels that his brother Mitch is not suited for the role of Vice President.

Despite the obstacles, Mays and Mitch's campaign proves to be a hit with the American people, and they win the election in a landslide victory. On inauguration day, Mays takes the oath of office and becomes the first African American President of the United States.

Head of State is a timely and satirical take on American politics, and Chris Rock's performance as Mays Gilliam is engaging and humorous. The movie offers poignant commentary on issues of race and class in America, and its portrayal of a grass-roots political movement is inspiring.

The chemistry between Chris Rock and Bernie Mac is also a highlight of the film, as they play off each other's comedic strengths to great effect. Lynn Whitfield delivers a strong performance as Mays and Mitch's mother, adding depth and complexity to the characters' familial dynamics.

Overall, Head of State is a funny and thought-provoking movie that offers a fresh perspective on American politics. It is a relevant and timely commentary on the state of the country, and a reminder of the power of hope and optimism in the face of adversity.

Head of State is a 2003 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 35 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.5 and a MetaScore of 44.
