Have Rocket, Will Travel is a science fiction comedy film released in 1959, directed by David Lowell Rich and starring The Three Stooges: Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Joe DeRita. The story centers around the trio's adventures as they accidentally launch a space capsule into orbit and find themselves on a strange planet. As the film begins, the Stooges are janitors at the fictional National Space Foundation, where they are tasked with cleaning up a rocketship. They accidentally activate the rocket and end up launching themselves into space. Once in orbit, they encounter a mysterious spaceship that brings them to an unknown planet. This is where their adventure begins.
The Stooges land on the planet and find themselves in the middle of a dispute between two groups of aliens, the Zorbits and the Murgatroids. The Zorbits are a peaceful group who love music while the Murgatroids are warlike creatures who are intent on conquering the Zorbits. The Stooges are mistaken for great intergalactic heroes who are there to save the Zorbits from the Murgatroids.
The Stooges attempt to help the Zorbits and get involved in several zany and humorous attempts to save the day. Along the way, they meet a beautiful female alien named Ogg and a robot named Robert. Ogg ultimately helps the Stooges save the Zorbits and defeat the Murgatroids.
The special effects in the film are quite impressive for the time, with some impressive spaceship and rocket sequences. The plot may seem silly by today's standards but is perfectly suited to the lighthearted comedy of the Stooges.
One of the most memorable moments in the film is when the Stooges perform a musical number on a strange electric keyboard they find on the planet. The song, "The Alphabet Song," is a fun tune that showcases the goofy nature of the Stooges.
The film also includes some great moments of physical comedy from the Stooges. Their trademark slapstick humor is on full display throughout the movie, and fans of their antics will not be disappointed. There are plenty of moments where the Stooges take a tumble or get hit with something, leading to plenty of laughs from the audience.
Overall, Have Rocket, Will Travel is a lighthearted and entertaining film that is sure to please fans of the Three Stooges. It may not be a groundbreaking piece of cinema, but it is an enjoyable romp through space with three of the most beloved comedians of all time.
