Haunted Honeymoon is a delightful comedy horror film from 1986, directed by and starring Gene Wilder. Alongside Wilder, the movie features a star-studded cast including his wife Gilda Radner and longtime collaborator Dom DeLuise. The film takes place in 1930s New York, where Wilder plays Larry Abbot, a famous radio actor who is about to marry the love of his life, Vickie (Radner).

Before the wedding, Larry decides to take Vickie and his eccentric family to his ancestral castle in England, where they will spend the honeymoon. The castle has a dark history, filled with secrets and ghostly apparitions. The stay is going to be a challenge since Larry suffers from a fear of haunted houses thanks to his traumatic childhood experience. His fear is so intense that he is hesitant to walk on a creaky floorboard in the castle without shaking uncontrollably.

The wedding party arrives at the castle, and the wedding rehearsal is the highlight of the film's first half, with a brilliant comedic ambiance. However, as the night wears on, the castle starts to live up to its reputation. Larry's fear of ghosts is intensified by the creepy experiences everyone in the family has in the castle. There are dark shadows, inexplicable noises, hidden rooms, and unexplained occurrences that start happening in the castle, which lead to some terrifying moments.

Larry’s fears become more pronounced as he and Vickie have a scary encounter during their first night's stay in the castle. The couple soon discovers that someone is trying to scare them away from the castle. Uncovering the secrets behind the wrath of the ghost will prove to be a daunting and exciting task for the family. They set out to find out what's happening at the castle, and they find themselves entangled in a series of spooky events that reveal the hidden secrets of the place.

The performances of the cast are outstanding, especially from Wilder, who is hilarious as the scared and bewildered radio actor. His chemistry with Radner is delightful to watch, and the two share a lovely chemistry that makes their characters' romance convincing. Dom DeLuise also delivers an excellent performance as Larry’s Uncle Phil, who is trying his best to make things better during the scary moments.

The film takes an interesting turn in the second half, where Larry gets a chance to play a hero. As the mystery builds to a climax, the film seamlessly mixes wit with classic horror tropes, and entertaining results emerge. A highlight scene of the film is Wilder’s performance in the climax, where he gets a chance to showcase his talent in a ghostly chase.

The film's technical elements are equally impressive, with remarkable cinematography, and a fantastic production design making the castle look menacing and foreboding. The score is appropriately spooky and adds to the scenes' tension, and the special effects are impressive for the era the film was made.

Overall, Haunted Honeymoon is an entertaining and charming horror-comedy movie that deserves more recognition. The film is a successful blend of comedy and horror, making it enjoyable for fans of both genres. Wilder, Radner, and DeLuise's performances are a definite highlight of the movie, adding humor and life to the eccentric family members. It’s a movie that has stood the test of time, and its sense of humor remains fresh and charming even today.

If you are in the mood for a spooky movie that has a lot of laughs, a good storyline, and outstanding performances, then Haunted Honeymoon is undoubtedly worth your time.
