Hastey Hastey is a 2008 Bollywood romantic comedy film directed by Ramanjit Juneja and produced by Ashutosh Bajpai. The movie stars Jimmy Shergill, Rajpal Yadav, Nisha Rawal, and Monishka in the leading roles. The movie follows the story of Rajshree (played by Nisha Rawal), a young, ambitious Indian girl who dreams of pursuing a career in business management in the United States. Despite her parents' reluctance, she manages to secure admission to an American university and sets out on a journey to fulfill her dreams. Along the way, she meets several interesting characters who become her friends, including Arjun (played by Jimmy Shergill) and Rocky (played by Rajpal Yadav).
As soon as Rajshree lands in America, she finds out that her visa has been canceled due to a mix-up, and she has to leave the country within 24 hours. Devastated and unsure of what to do, she turns to her new friends for help. Arjun, who has been nursing a crush on her, offers to help her out by marrying her for a year so that she can complete her education and achieve her goals. Rajshree, despite being initially hesitant, agrees to the proposal, and the two of them set out on a journey of self-discovery and understanding.
As Arjun and Rajshree start living together, they discover that they are quite different from each other. Arjun is carefree, impulsive, and has a devil-may-care attitude, whereas Rajshree is systematic, focused, and takes life seriously. As they navigate their way through various cultural differences and personality clashes, the two of them start falling in love with each other. But are their feelings for real, or are they just a result of their proximity to each other?
As if all these complications were not enough, Rajshree's ex-boyfriend, Nikhil (played by Monishka), who she had dumped to pursue her dreams, arrives in America and tries to win her back. Rajshree, who is now confused and unsure of her feelings, must make a difficult choice that could affect the rest of her life.
Hastey Hastey is a light-hearted and entertaining movie that explores the themes of love, friendship, sacrifice, and cultural differences. The movie's direction and screenplay are average, but the performances of the lead actors stand out. Jimmy Shergill is charming and lovable as the carefree Arjun, while Nisha Rawal is impressive in her debut role as the ambitious Rajshree. Rajpal Yadav provides comic relief with his witty one-liners and impeccable comic timing. Monishka is decent in his limited role as Nikhil.
The movie's music is peppy and foot-tapping, with catchy numbers like "Hastey Hastey" and "Rabba Kisida Tu Kya Lage." The movie's cinematography is aesthetically pleasing, with beautiful shots of New York City and some picturesque locations in India.
However, the movie does have its flaws. The movie's plot is predictable and clichéd, with a happy ending that seems contrived and forced. The movie's supporting cast is forgettable, and some of the scenes are unnecessarily stretched out, making the movie longer than it needed to be.
In conclusion, Hastey Hastey is a fun, feel-good movie that is a good watch for those looking for a light-hearted romantic comedy. Despite its flaws, the movie does manage to entertain and engage the audience with its lovable characters, catchy music, and picturesque locations.
