Hamrahi is a 1963 Bollywood drama film directed by T. Prakash Rao and produced by L. V. Prasad. It stars Rajendra Kumar Tuli, Jamuna, and Mehmood in lead roles. The film opens with a young woman named Ganga (Jamuna) who is living with her parents and two younger sisters. They are living in extreme poverty, struggling to make ends meet. Ganga's father is bedridden and her mother works as a laborer to support the family. Ganga takes care of the household chores, which leaves her with no time to pursue her studies. Despite the difficulties, Ganga maintains a positive attitude towards life and believes in the power of hard work to overcome adversity.

Ganga is introduced to a wealthy businessman named Ashok (Rajendra Kumar) when he visits her village. Ashok falls in love with Ganga and proposes marriage to her. Ganga is hesitant at first but agrees to marry Ashok when she is convinced that he truly loves her. Ashok takes Ganga to his city home where she is introduced to his mother (Leela Mishra) who is initially unhappy with the marriage. However, Ganga wins over everyone's hearts with her kindness and warmth.

The newlyweds are happy until Ganga discovers that Ashok's mother expects her to perform her duties as a daughter-in-law without expecting much in return. Ganga is disappointed that her education and dreams of becoming a teacher are not given much value in the family. However, her optimistic attitude and hard work eventually win over Ashok's mother and the two develop a close bond.

The film also features a sub-plot about Ashok's friend Sumer (Mehmood) who has fallen on hard times and lost his job. Sumer is dependent on Ashok for financial support and is at constant odds with his wife, who is unhappy with his lack of ambition. Sumer's troubles cause him to contemplate suicide but Ashok intervenes and helps him find a new job.

As the film progresses, Ganga and Ashok's relationship is put to the test when Ashok's mother becomes ill and they must decide whether to follow traditional customs or allow Ganga to pursue her dreams. The film culminates in a heartwarming ending that showcases the power of love and sacrifice.

Hamrahi is a well-crafted and engaging film that explores the themes of love, family, tradition, and sacrifice. The performances by the lead actors are commendable, with Rajendra Kumar and Jamuna delivering noteworthy performances. Mehmood provides comic relief while also delivering a nuanced portrayal of his character's emotional turmoil. The chemistry between the characters is palpable, and the film's emotional pull is heightened by the well-written dialogues and the music composed by Shankar-Jaikishen.

Overall, Hamrahi is a must-watch film for fans of classic Bollywood cinema. Its timeless themes and strong performances make it a memorable and impactful cinematic experience.
