Gurgaon is a neo-noir thriller movie that griped the audience with its engaging plot and outstanding performances by the cast. The movie is set in Gurgaon, the satellite city just outside of New Delhi, where big shot businessmen and land mafias rule with an iron fist. The film revolves around the life of Kehri Singh (Pankaj Tripathi), a corrupt and ruthless real estate tycoon who is feared and admired by his peers and subordinates alike.
Kehri has two children: his elder son Nikki (Akshay Oberoi), who is irresponsible, spoiled, and only interested in partying, while his younger son Preet (Ragini Khanna) is obedient and tries hard to gain his father's approval. However, after a failed business deal, Kehri starts to suspect that Nikki is involved in a conspiracy against him. He confronts Nikki, who confesses to the betrayal, and in a fit of rage, Kehri physically assaults him. Nikki manages to escape, and Kehri starts a manhunt to bring him back, dead or alive.
In the midst of this volatile situation, Sarah (Shalini Vatsa), Nikki's girlfriend, disappears without a trace. Kehri believes that Nikki is behind her disappearance and his anxiety and fear start to take a toll on him. The plot thickens when a cop from Delhi, named Singh (Aamir Bashir), enters the scene to investigate Sarah's case. Singh is a no-nonsense cop who is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery and bring the perpetrators to justice.
As the story unfolds, the audience is taken on a rollercoaster ride of suspense, betrayal, and revenge. The movie explores the themes of power, corruption, and the dark underbelly of urban development. It gives an insight into the murky world of real estate, where money talks and ethics are thrown out of the window. The characters are well-drawn, with each one having their own motivations and ambitions.
Akshay Oberoi gives a standout performance as Nikki, the prodigal son, who is caught in a web of deceit and ambition. He successfully portrays the complexities of his character, who is both reckless and vulnerable. Pankaj Tripathi, as Kehri Singh, is menacing and intimidating in his portrayal of the ruthless patriarch. He effortlessly switches between being a loving father to a cold-blooded killer.
Aamir Bashir deserves a special mention for his performance as Singh, the cop who is determined to solve the case. He brings a much-needed gravitas to the movie, and his character serves as a moral anchor in the sea of moral ambiguity.
The movie's direction is commendable, with the director, Shanker Raman, making a strong debut. He skillfully creates an ominous atmosphere, and the use of shadows and dark hues adds to the overall mood of the movie. The movie's music is also noteworthy, with Nucleya's tracks perfectly complementing the edgy vibe of the film.
