Growth is a 2010 horror/thriller film directed by Gabriel Cowan and starring Mircea Monroe, Christopher Shand, and Nora Kirkpatrick. The film tells the story of a group of young biologists who visit a remote island to study the effects of pollution on the local ecosystem. However, they soon discover that the island is inhabited by a mysterious organism that is rapidly spreading and evolving, and they must fight to stay alive.

The film begins with a montage of news clips about environmental disasters and pollution, suggesting that these events have led to the emergence of the strange organism on the island. We are then introduced to our group of scientists, including marine biologist Jamie (Monroe), botanist Seth (Shand), and microbiologist Will (Brian Krause). They are accompanied by two assistants, Casey (Kirkpatrick) and Marco (Alexi Wasser), and a local guide, Luis (C. Thomas Howell).

As they begin their research, the scientists discover strange growths on the local flora and fauna. They also find a mysterious black goo that seems to be the source of the organism. However, their investigation is interrupted by a group of military personnel, who are also on the island and seem to be hiding something.

Things take a turn for the worse when the organism begins to infect the team, causing them to suffer from hallucinations and strange mutations. They soon realize that the organism is not only spreading rapidly but also becoming more intelligent and aggressive, and they are forced to fight for survival.

One of the strengths of Growth is its focus on character development. The film takes its time to establish the personalities of each member of the team, allowing the audience to build a connection with them before the horrors begin. The actors all give strong performances, with Monroe in particular standing out as the level-headed leader of the group.

The film also makes great use of its setting. The remote island, with its eerie atmosphere and lush vegetation, serves as the perfect backdrop for the growing horror. The special effects are impressive, with the mutations and transformations being both creepy and believable.

There are a few minor flaws in the film, such as some clunky dialogue and a few too many jump scares, but overall, Growth is a tense and gripping horror/thriller that is sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. With its strong performances, effective effects, and intelligent storyline, Growth is a must-see for fans of the genre.

Growth is a 2009 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.4.
