Green Street 2 - Stand Your Ground is a 2009 British-American film that revolves around the life of a young man named Dave (played by Ross McCall). Dave is from the United States and has a troubled past which haunts him. He gets involved in a street fight where he beats up a group of policemen who were trying to arrest him. He is then sentenced to prison in the United Kingdom.
In prison, Dave is introduced to the world of football. He learns the rules of the game and becomes a decent player. He joins the prison football team where he makes friends with some of the other inmates.
After he is released from prison, Dave moves to London and decides to support the West Ham United football club. He finds out that the fans of West Ham United are also fans of a hooligan group called the Green Street Elite. Dave gets involved with the Green Street Elite and soon becomes good friends with some of the members.
However, things take a turn for the worse when the Green Street Elite get involved in a street brawl with a rival group. One of the members of the rival group is killed, and the police start an investigation. The Green Street Elite are blamed for the killing, and the police start arresting members of the group.
Dave and his friends decide to find out who the real killers are and clear their names. They start a journey of revenge and violence that takes them through the dangerous streets of London. They encounter various obstacles and challenges along the way, including other hooligan groups who are out to get them.
The film portrays the life of hooligans and the violence that is associated with the world of football. It shows how young men can be drawn into this world and how difficult it is to get out of it. The film also shows the loyalty and friendship that exists between members of hooligan groups, and how they will do anything to protect each other.
The performances of the actors are commendable. Ross McCall as Dave delivers a strong and intense performance. John Bariamis as Big Marc delivers an equally powerful performance. Nicola Bertram as Alex, Dave's love interest, has a smaller role, but she does justice to her character. Matt Candito as Pete and Lonnie Cayetano as Tamer are also good in their respective roles.
The screenplay of the movie is tight, and the pacing is good. The fight scenes are brutal and realistic, but they are not overly violent. The cinematography is impressive, and the use of locations adds to the authenticity of the film.
One of the drawbacks of the film is that it relies heavily on stereotypes. The hooligans are portrayed as mindless thugs who are always looking for a fight. The police officers are shown as incompetent and corrupt. The film also lacks depth in some of its characters and relationships.
In conclusion, Green Street 2 - Stand Your Ground is an engaging and entertaining film. It offers an insight into the dangerous world of football hooliganism and the friendships that are formed within these groups. The performances, screenplay, and cinematography are all commendable. However, the film relies too heavily on stereotypes, and the characters lack depth. Nevertheless, it is a film that football fans and action movie enthusiasts will enjoy.
