Many people enjoy movies that contain a sport like soccer. Gracie is an American film based on girls being able to play soccer. Carly Schroeder stars as the main character, Gracie Bowen. The movie takes place in New Jersey in 1978. This was a time when women's soccer wasn't noticed. Her brother, Johnny, was the star player on the varsity team. After a game loss, Johnny is killed in a car wreck. She wants to pass the time by playing soccer. The only problem with this is there wasn't a girl's soccer team. She would have to play on the boy's team. Gracie wants to take Johnny's place on the varsity soccer team. Gracie desires to make her brother proud of her.
Gracie's father doesn't think she has what it takes to play on the boy's team. Gracie wants revenge to prove to her parents that she can do it. She quits doing her homework, begins to steal, and is caught by her dad about to have sex. This makes her parents change their mind. Her father quits his job to coach Gracie.
The school rejects the idea of her playing on an all boys team. She appeals the rejection. The school finally allows her to try out for the soccer team. She makes the junior varsity team. Although, she wanted to make varsity. The coach of the junior varsity team asks her to come play at the championship. Her team is losing by one point. The game goes into sudden death. The first team to score will win the game. Gracie scores the winning point by using a move that her dad taught her.
