Gora Aur Kala is a Bollywood film released in 1972, directed by Naresh Kumar and starring Rajendra Kumar Tuli, Hema Malini, and Rekha in lead roles. The movie is a social drama that deals with the issue of discrimination based on the color of one's skin. The movie follows the story of Gora (Rajendra Kumar), who is the son of a wealthy zamindar. Gora is fair-skinned and is loved by everyone in his community. On the other hand, his younger sister Lalita (Rekha) is dark-skinned and is discriminated against by the society. She is looked down upon and is subjected to various forms of humiliation by the people around her.
One day, Gora falls in love with an orphan girl called Radha (Hema Malini), who he meets at a temple. Radha is also dark-skinned, and her skin color becomes a topic of gossip among the people. However, Gora ignores the criticism and decides to marry Radha. His father, however, is against their marriage because of Radha's skin color. Gora defies his father and marries Radha, much to the displeasure of his family.
The story takes a dramatic turn when Gora's father is killed by a bandit called Jabbar Singh (Prem Chopra). Jabbar has been terrorizing the village for years, and he is feared by everyone. Gora decides to take revenge for his father's death and decides to impersonate Jabbar Singh. In order to do this, he undergoes a surgery to darken his skin so that he looks like Jabbar. Gora succeeds in his mission, and eventually, he is able to capture Jabbar and bring him to justice.
The movie is a commentary on the issue of colorism that is prevalent in Indian society. The film highlights the discrimination faced by dark-skinned people and challenges the idea that fair skin is superior. The movie also explores the themes of love, family, and revenge.
Rajendra Kumar gives an excellent performance as Gora, portraying the character with sensitivity and depth. Hema Malini and Rekha also deliver noteworthy performances in their roles. Prem Chopra, who plays the villainous Jabbar Singh, is convincing in his role and adds depth to the movie.
The film's music, composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, is memorable and features classic songs such as "Mehbooba Mehbooba" and "Ek Na Ek Din Ye Kahani Banegi".
Overall, Gora Aur Kala is a timeless classic that presents a powerful message about the importance of accepting people for who they are, regardless of their skin color. The movie's themes resonate with audiences even today, making it a must-watch for anyone interested in Bollywood cinema.
