Godzilla: The Planet Eater from 2018 is a science fiction, action, and adventure movie directed by Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita. The film is the third and final installment of the anime Godzilla trilogy produced by Polygon Pictures for Netflix. The movie features the voices of Mamoru Miyano, Takahiro Sakurai, and Kana Hanazawa.
The story of the movie takes place in the far future, where humanity had to flee the Earth due to Godzilla's invincibility. The humans search for a new home in the universe but ultimately end up returning back to Earth to reclaim the planet. However, things are not as they left them, as it has been twenty thousand years since they left, and the Earth is no longer the same.
On Earth, the ecosystem has undergone a drastic change, and life forms have evolved in unimaginable ways. The most dominant among these are the Servum, which are dragon-like creatures as the result of Godzilla's radiation. The Servum worship Godzilla, and their goddess, a mythical entity named Ghidorah, believes in killing all life to create a new world.
The movie follows Haruo Sakaki, a young man with a vendetta against Godzilla for not only destroying his family but also for causing humanity's downfall. He leads his band of survivors to defeat what they believe is the cause of the Servum, Godzilla. In the process, they meet a tribe of natives who have survived Godzilla's ages of destruction.
The natives have been studying ancient texts about a creature that defeated Ghidorah once before - a creature named Mothra. The natives believe that Mothra is the only hope for defeating Ghidorah and Godzilla.
In the meantime, sinister forces are working behind the scenes, trying to manipulate the outcome of the battle. Metphies, an Exif priest who had been helping the humans in the previous movies, has his plan to eradicate humanity and let Ghidorah rule over the planet.
The movie is essentially an all-out battle between Godzilla and Ghidorah, each side with their respective followers - Servum and Mothra. The animation and CGI in the movie are similar to the previous Godzilla movies from Polygon Pictures, which means it is of high quality. The characters are better developed than the previous movies, and the voice-acting is admirable.
The movie is incredibly intense and does a great job of keeping the audience invested in the story. The final battle between Godzilla and Ghidorah is nothing short of epic, filled with tension and suspense. There is a constant sense of danger, and the fate of humanity hangs in the balance.
In conclusion, Godzilla: The Planet Eater from 2018 is a fantastic conclusion to the Godzilla anime trilogy. The animation, voice-acting, and characters are all excellent. The movie does a good job of balancing the action scenes and the story's character development. It is a must-watch movie for all Godzilla fans and lovers of action-adventure movies in general.
