The movie Gingerdead Man 2: Bakery of Blood is a horror film released in 2008, directed by Silvia St. Croix and starring Michelle Bauer, Pieter Christian Colson, and Michael Deak. This sequel to the 2005 film Gingerdead Man begins with the ashes of the demonic cookie character, the Gingerdead Man, being accidentally shipped to a nearby bakery instead of being sent to be rid of.
The bakery is home to a reality baking show competition featuring a variety of quirky contestants. When the ash-containing urn arrives at the bakery, a curious employee accidentally spills some of the ashes into the dough being used for the competition, that results in the resurrection of the Gingerdead Man.
The Gingerdead Man is brought back to life as a result of a voodoo spell cast by a witch that creates him in full-life size. He recognizes Cynthia (Bauer) as the only person who ever defeated him, and the two engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse as the contestants and employees are brutally murdered one by one. Cynthia, along with her friends, tries to stop the Gingerdead Man from causing any more damage while the baking competition contestants are eliminated one by one.
The effects and props are surprisingly good by independent horror film standards, considering the filmmakersâ limitations in budget and resources. The Gingerdead Man puppet and costume are frighteningly well-made, composed of a combination of practical effects and stop-motion animation techniques.
The humor in the movie â which is the right kind of lowbrow humor involving dough, knives, and sugary treats â complements the horror elements, creating a unique and entertaining experience for viewers. Furthermore, the way the movie handles its baking show competition going on during the murders is enjoyable all throughout the runtime.
It is worth noting the film includes a few scenes with somewhat high production values, including an engaging dream sequence and flashbacks that show the Gingerdead Man's origin story.
The cast of Gingerdead Man 2: Bakery of Blood includes a collection of actors who are typical of low-budget horror movies. The horror legends Michelle Bauer and Michael Deak lend their considerable experience and begin the movie with the right tone. The supporting cast of actors is also decent, with the actors playing the baking contestants providing the necessary campy humor to contrast with the Gingerdead Man's terrifying seriousness.
Overall, Gingerdead Man 2: Bakery of Blood is an enjoyably campy and bloody horror-comedy with surprisingly good visuals and production values for an indie B-movie. The film is entertaining from start to finish with very few dull moments. However, it's not for someone who is not a fan of gory films. Fans of Evil Dead, Shaun Of The Dead or any other horror-comedy movies would surely enjoy Gingerdead Man 2: Bakery of Blood.
Gingerdead Man 2: Bakery of Blood is a 2008 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 12 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.0.
