This national PBS special is a moving tribute to the "Greatest Generation." Ernie Pyle was the most beloved war correspondent this nation has ever known. No one wrote more movingly and realistically about the common man in war than did Pyle. This film tells the story of World War II from the perspective of the G.I. in the foxhole and on the front line. Pyle's best columns - from the bombing in London (1939) to the end of the war in the Pacific (1945) - are narrated in the first person, with William Windom as the "Voice of Pyle".
