Garfield's Babes and Bullets is a 1989 American animated television film directed by Phil Roman and starring Lorenzo Music as the voice of Garfield the Cat. The film was produced by 20th Century Fox and was based on the comic strip created by Jim Davis. It was the third Garfield TV special and was later released on VHS. The movie opens with Garfield, the lazy and sarcastic cat, watching an old detective movie on TV. He gets sucked into the film and imagines himself as a private detective, Sam Spayed. He is hired by a female client, Lady Dinah, who wants him to investigate the disappearance of her owner's valuable pearl necklace.
Garfield's investigation leads him into the underground world of cats, where he encounters a number of feline characters with a penchant for cigars and fedoras. One of them is a tough Tomcat named Cyrus who has the same clients as Garfield.
As Garfield chases down leads, he is assisted by his sidekick, the cautious Odie the Dog, and his faithful secretary, Arlene the Cat. Along the way, they encounter a number of dangerous situations and shady characters, including a seductive feline named Lola who tries to distract Garfield from his investigation.
Despite the obstacles, Garfield and his team are able to crack the case and recover the stolen necklace. By the end of the movie, Garfield returns to his regular life, ready for his next adventure.
The animation in Garfield's Babes and Bullets is bright and colorful, with a classic early 80s aesthetic. The movie is filled with witty one-liners and pop culture references that will feel familiar to fans of the Garfield comic strip.
The voice performances are top-notch, with Lorenzo Music delivering a pitch-perfect portrayal of Garfield's signature sarcasm and wit. Thom Huge and Gregg Berger also deliver solid performances as Odie and Arlene, respectively.
Garfield's Babes and Bullets is a fun and charming addition to the Garfield franchise. It captures the essence of the beloved comic strip while delivering an entertaining homage to classic detective movies.
