Galaxis, released in 1995, is a sci-fi action movie starring Brigitte Nielsen (Red Sonja, Rocky IV), Richard Moll (Night Court, Scary Movie 2), and John H. Brennan (The Jerky Boys). Directed by William Mesa and written by Nick Davis and Paul De Meo, the film follows a group of outlaws and mercenaries as they attempt to save the universe from an evil empire.
The film takes place in the future, where a powerful and corrupt empire called the Outlanders is seeking to dominate the universe. The only thing standing in their way is a group of rebels known as the Alliance, who have been fighting against the Outlanders for years. The Alliance has hired a team of mercenaries to help them in their battle, led by Captain Cornelius Ratchet (Nielsen) and her partner, Renegade (Brennan). Ratchet and Renegade are tough, no-nonsense fighters who are used to getting the job done, no matter the cost.
When the Alliance's leader, Prince Thun (John Schuck), is taken captive by the Outlanders, Ratchet and her crew are sent on a mission to rescue him. Thun holds the key to a powerful weapon that could turn the tide of the war in the Alliance's favor, so his rescue is of utmost importance. Along the way, however, they discover that the Outlanders' plans are even more sinister than they thought. They are planning to use a secret weapon, known as the Galaxis, to destroy whole planets and wipe out entire civilizations. Ratchet and her team must not only rescue Thun but also stop the Outlanders from using the Galaxis and save the universe from destruction.
The cast of Galaxis is a strong one, and they all deliver solid performances. Brigitte Nielsen is a standout as Ratchet, bringing plenty of toughness and charisma to the role. Richard Moll is suitably menacing as the main villain, Lord Crater, and John H. Brennan brings comic relief as Renegade. The supporting cast is also strong, with standout performances from John Schuck as Prince Thun and Peter Murnik as the cyborg, Spike.
The special effects in the film are pretty impressive, especially for a low-budget sci-fi movie from the mid-90s. The space battles are exciting, and the alien creatures are well-designed and convincing. The film's overall look is gritty and realistic, which adds to the feeling that this is a movie about a bunch of tough mercenaries fighting for their lives against overwhelming odds.
Overall, Galaxis is an enjoyable and action-packed sci-fi adventure that should appeal to fans of the genre. While it may not be the most original movie ever made, it delivers plenty of thrills and excitement, and the solid performances from the cast help to elevate it above many other low-budget sci-fi movies from the same era.
Galaxis is a 1995 science fiction movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 31 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.6.
