Gabriel is an Australian independent action fantasy movie released in 2007. It tells the story of a fallen angel named Gabriel (Andy Whitfield), who returns to earth in an attempt to wage war against the forces of darkness responsible for corrupting the human race. Gabriel is a dark and atmospheric movie that takes place in an alternate universe. It's a world where heaven and hell coexist alongside humans, and things are not what they seem. The movie explores the themes of redemption, sacrifice, and love as it follows Gabriel's journey to restore balance to the world.

The movie opens with Gabriel falling to earth and landing in a dark, desolate city known as Purgatory. The city is a bleak and dangerous place controlled by seven archangels, who are essentially demons. Each of the archangels is responsible for a particular vice or sin, and the city is divided into seven districts, one for each archangel.

Gabriel arrives in Purgatory with a mission to bring down the archangels and restore order to the city. He is aided in his quest by a motley crew of fallen angels and humans, who have their own agenda. The group includes Sammael (Dwaine Stevenson), a fallen angel who takes on a human form and acts as Gabriel's guide; Jade (Samantha Noble), a human who is searching for her missing sister, Kael; and Amitiel (Michael Piccirilli), another angel who is Gabriel's best friend.

As Gabriel and his team begin their mission, they discover that the archangels are much more powerful than they anticipated. The archangels have created their own army of demonic creatures known as the Black Eyes, who roam the city and strike fear into the hearts of the inhabitants. Gabriel and his team must face numerous challenges as they navigate the dangerous city and prepare for the final showdown with the archangels.

The movie's visuals are stunning and do justice to the dystopian world the story is set in. The nightmarish city of Purgatory is reminiscent of Blade Runner's neo-noir aesthetic, and the Black Eyes are terrifying creatures that will send shivers down your spine. The movie also has a stellar soundtrack that enhances the mood of the story.

The cast delivers solid performances, with Andy Whitfield being the standout as Gabriel. He brings a brooding intensity to the character, and his fight scenes are a highlight of the movie. Dwaine Stevenson delivers a memorable performance as Sammael, bringing a sardonic wit to the role that balances out Gabriel's seriousness. Samantha Noble also does a great job as Jade, infusing the character with a toughness and vulnerability that makes her relatable.

Overall, Gabriel is a visually stunning movie with a dark and intriguing story. It is not without its flaws, as some of the subplots could be fleshed out more, but it still manages to keep you engaged throughout its runtime. If you're a fan of action movies with a supernatural twist, then this movie is definitely worth checking out.

Gabriel is a 2007 fantasy movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 53 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.5.
