Future Weather is a drama film released in 2012, directed and written by Jenny Deller. The story follows the life of a young girl named Lauduree (played by Perla Haney-Jardine), who lives with her single mother, Tanya (played by Marin Ireland). Lauduree is an intelligent and curious girl who has a strong interest in science and the effects of climate change on the environment.
However, her obsession with science sometimes takes her away from her responsibilities and affects her relationships with other people. Tanya, struggling with personal issues, suddenly abandons Lauduree, leaving her in the care of her grandmother, Greta (played by Amy Madigan), who lives on a farm in rural America.
Despite the fact that Lauduree is unhappy about moving to a place with no Wi-Fi and animals, she finds some solace in Greta's vast knowledge of nature and traditional ways of living. Greta tells Lauduree stories of her ancestors and how they managed to survive and take care of the land for centuries.
In the new place, Lauduree also becomes friends with a science teacher, Ms. Markovi (played by Lili Taylor), who shares her passion for science. Together, they embark on several science projects that not only help Lauduree explore the impact of climate change on the environment but also help her cope with the absence of her mother.
The film portrays the emotional journey of a young girl who is trying to find her place in the world while dealing with complex and personal issues. Although it is a coming-of-age drama, the movie also touches upon the larger social issue of climate change and the need for sustainable living. The director Jenny Deller has done an excellent job of weaving the two themes together seamlessly.
The acting and casting of the film are top-notch. Perla Haney-Jardine gives an outstanding performance as Lauduree, conveying a range of emotions through her facial expressions and body language. Marin Ireland is excellent in her brief but impactful role as Tanya, and Amy Madigan delivers a memorable performance as Greta. However, it is Lili Taylor who steals the show with her natural acting style and incredible chemistry with Perla Haney-Jardine.
The cinematography of the film fits perfectly with the rustic and rural setting of the story. The visuals of the vast farmland, the woods, and the animals create a sense of nostalgia and longing for a simpler time. The music score, composed by Chris Ridenhour, complements the visuals and adds depth to the emotional scenes.
Overall, Future Weather is a beautifully crafted film that offers a compelling story of a young girl's search for her identity while raising awareness about climate change. The film may not have a fast-paced plot, but it does not need one. The narrative is powerful enough to engage the audience and make them care about the characters. It is definitely a must-watch for those who appreciate coming-of-age dramas and care about the environment.
Future Weather is a 2013 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 39 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.1 and a MetaScore of 67.
