In the 1981 horror-comedy Full Moon High, we follow the story of Tony Walker (Adam Arkin), a high school senior who is also the star of the football team. But Tony's life takes a strange turn when he gets bitten by a werewolf while on a trip to Romania. From that point on, Tony finds himself changing, getting stronger and hairier as the full moon approaches. With the help of his father (Ed McMahon) and his girlfriend (Roz Kelly), Tony tries to figure out how to deal with his new condition and maintain his normal life.
The movie starts off with Tony as a popular jock who seems to have everything going for him. He's dating the head cheerleader (played by Roz Kelly) and has just been accepted into a prestigious college. But things quickly spiral out of control after he is bitten by a werewolf during a camping trip to Romania with his father. Tony wakes up the next day in his tent, covered in hair and with new-found strength.
As the full moon approaches, Tony's transformations become more and more frequent, and he starts to realize that he needs help. His father, who also happens to be a scientist, agrees to help him find a cure. The two of them embark on a journey to find a rare flower that only blooms once a year and has the power to cure Tony's condition.
But things don't go as planned, and Tony's transformations continue to cause chaos. He finds himself getting into fights with the school bullies and taking on the persona of a motorcycle gang member at one point. He also starts to have romantic feelings towards Miss Montgomery (played by Elizabeth Hartman), his favorite teacher, which only adds more confusion and complications to his life.
Throughout the movie, we see Tony struggling to balance his new werewolf powers with his normal life. He tries to hide his condition from his girlfriend, family, and friends, but it becomes increasingly difficult as his transformations become more frequent and uncontrollable. At the same time, he is dealing with the pressures of being a high school senior, getting into college, and figuring out his place in the world.
Full Moon High is a horror-comedy that takes a more lighthearted approach to the werewolf genre. While there are plenty of moments of horror, particularly during some of Tony's more violent transformations, the movie is mostly played for laughs. The humor is often silly and slapstick, with puns and sight gags that are sure to make audiences chuckle.
The acting in Full Moon High is solid, with Adam Arkin turning in a likable performance as Tony, the conflicted werewolf. Roz Kelly is also great as his girlfriend, who is both sweet and sassy. Ed McMahon, a familiar face from The Tonight Show, adds some comedic relief as Tony's bumbling father.
One thing that stands out about Full Moon High is its soundtrack. The movie features several catchy songs, including the title track by Bill Conti, which is sure to get stuck in your head.
Overall, Full Moon High is a fun, lighthearted movie that is perfect for horror-comedy fans. While it may not be a masterpiece, it's an enjoyable flick that doesn't take itself too seriously. If you're looking for a werewolf movie with humor and heart, Full Moon High is worth checking out.
