In the year 1969, John Sullivan (Jim Caviezel) is a young boy who has just lost his father, Frank Sullivan (Dennis Quaid), a firefighter, in a warehouse fire. Thirty years later, John has become a detective, and he is still haunted by his father's death. One night, he discovers his father's old ham radio and sets it up in his apartment. To his surprise, he is able to make contact with his father in the year 1969, before the fire that killed him.
As John and his father communicate through the radio, they discover that they are able to change events in the past and affect the present. However, their actions have unintended consequences, and a series of events leads to a chain of events that threaten to unravel the very fabric of time itself.
Meanwhile, a serial killer is on the loose in both past and present, and John and his father must work together to catch the killer and prevent him from claiming more victims. As they work to solve the case, John begins to uncover shocking truths about his father's life and the events that led to his death.
As the two men race against time to stop the killer and set things right, they must also confront their own personal demons and reconcile their pasts. The bond between father and son is put to the test as they struggle to save their family and prevent a catastrophic event that could change the course of history.
