Laurel Hester is a New Jersey police officer who is on permanent leave after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. She also happens to be a lesbian with a permanent life partner named Stacie Andree. This documentary film follow Hester's lawsuit filed against the Ocean County, New Jersey Board of Chosen Freeholders. At issue is her desire to have her pension benefits awarded to her partner, which current laws would normally support. The fact her partner is same sex is at the heart of the Board's decision to deny the request. When a LGBT civil rights organization gets involved, the real fireworks begin.
