Free Fall is a 2014 action-packed thriller directed by Malek Akkad (producer of the Halloween series) and stars D.B. Sweeney, Sarah Butler, and Malcolm McDowell. The film revolves around a group of skydivers who get caught in a heist by a group of criminals who force them to retrieve stolen money thrown out of the plane mid-jump. The movie opens with Tyler, played by D.B. Sweeney, a skydiving instructor who is teaching his students the ins and outs of skydiving. Along with the other instructors, Tyler is planning a group jump when he is approached by a mysterious stranger named Mal, played by Malcolm McDowell. Mal claims to be a wealthy businessman who wishes to experience a skydive jump, but as events unfold, it becomes clear he has other motives.

As Tyler and his fellow instructors jump from the plane, they are followed closely by the stolen money that has been thrown from the cockpit. Mal's team of criminals is waiting on the ground for the skydivers to retrieve the stolen money, but things quickly go awry when the criminals start shooting at them. The skydivers are forced to use all their skills to get away from the criminals and end up hiding in the forest.

The rest of the movie is a thrilling chase, as the skydivers attempt to outsmart the criminals who are hot on their tail. As they run through the woods, they come across a cabin, where they find Audrey, played by Sarah Butler, who is on the run from her own troubles. Audrey joins the group, and together, they must fight to survive as they are relentlessly pursued by the criminals.

The movie is full of adrenaline-pumping action scenes, from the exhilarating skydives to the heart-stopping moments in the woods. The film's pacing is excellent, and the suspense is maintained throughout the film. The gritty, realistic cinematography adds to the tension and the feeling of being in the middle of the action.

The acting in Free Fall is solid, with D.B. Sweeney providing a grounded and authentic performance as Tyler, the experienced skydiving instructor. His character is calm and collected throughout the film, which is a nice contrast to the high-stress situation he finds himself in. Sarah Butler also does an excellent job as Audrey, providing a strong female lead who can keep up with the male characters. Malcolm McDowell's performance as Mal is intimidating and adds to the overall sense of danger in the movie.

One of the film's strengths is its use of practical effects, with many of the action scenes being filmed live without the use of CGI. The skydiving sequences, in particular, are breathtaking, with the actors actually jumping from planes at high altitudes. The filmmakers also use a helicopter for some of the more daring skydiving stunts, which adds to the realism of the film.

Overall, Free Fall is an exciting, well-made action thriller that is sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The film's strong performances, pacing, and use of practical effects make it a standout in the genre. While the plot may not be the most original, it's executed well, and the film is a fun, thrilling ride from start to finish.

Free Fall is a 2014 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.5.
