As the title suggests, Free Fall is a film that revolves around the theme of falling, both literally and metaphorically. The story follows a newly-single woman named Allison (played by Sarah Butler), who is struggling to come to terms with her recent break-up. Trying to find a way to cope with her emotions, she decides to take up skydiving, a hobby her ex-boyfriend had introduced her to.
During one of her jumps, Allison's parachute malfunctions, and she finds herself plummeting towards the ground at a terrifying speed. Fortunately, she is rescued at the last moment by a fellow skydiver named Ham (played by D.B. Sweeney), who puts his life on the line to save hers. Grateful for his heroism, Allison strikes up a friendship with Ham, and the two become close.
As Allison spends more time with Ham, she begins to open herself up, sharing her deepest fears and insecurities with him. She starts to realize that she may have been settling for a mediocre relationship with her ex, and that there might be something more meaningful out there waiting for her. But as she begins to build a new life for herself, she finds that her past continues to haunt her in unexpected ways.
One of the main antagonists of the film is the owner of the skydiving school where Allison and Ham train. Known simply as 'The Colonel' (played by Malcolm McDowell), he is a cold, calculating man who seems more interested in making money than in ensuring the safety of his students. As Allison gets closer to Ham, she begins to suspect that The Colonel may be responsible for the malfunctions that led to her near-fatal jump.
With its adrenaline-fueled skydiving scenes and intense emotions, Free Fall is a gripping drama that will keep viewers hooked from start to finish. The film's three leads all deliver powerful performances, with Sarah Butler in particular standing out as a sympathetic and relatable heroine. D.B. Sweeney and Malcolm McDowell are also excellent, bringing depth and nuance to their respective roles.
Although the film is primarily a drama, it also includes elements of romance and action, making it a well-rounded and engaging movie for audiences of all tastes. Whether you're a fan of high-stakes thrillers, heart-wrenching dramas, or poignant love stories, Free Fall has something to offer. With its strong script, talented cast, and breathtaking visuals, this is a film that is not to be missed.
