Frank the Bastard is a thriller drama movie directed by Brad Coley and released in 2013. The film follows a woman named Clair Defina (Rachel Miner) who goes to her mother’s abandoned home in Maine to investigate the disappearance of her father, Frank (William Sadler), whom she has never met. She teams up with local police officer, Noah (Andy Comeau), to try to unravel the mystery behind his vanishing.

Clair is a self-sufficient, independent woman who has spent her entire life without her father due to her mother giving him up before Clair was born. She is determined to uncover the truth about her family’s dark past and, despite Noah's skepticism, she refuses to be deterred from finding out what happened to her father.

After settling into the home, Clair discovers that her enigmatic father had an unsavory past that involved a local woman, Lily (Shamika Cotton), who is still living in the area. Lily was rumored to be involved with Frank and had disappeared around the same time as he did. As Clair begins to dig deeper, she starts to unravel the complicated web of secrets and deceit that her father might have been involved in.

Throughout the film, the story’s pace is slow and moody, with a heavy sense of foreboding. The rugged scenery of coastal Maine, a moody blue palate, and subtle atmospheric touches create a sense of isolation and darkness that contributes to the foreboding atmosphere. The support of the excellent acting, particularly from Miner, also helps to create the tension.

The climax of the movie turns into a complicated, dangerous game of cat-and-mouse for Clair and a surprise villain. She must use all her wits and strength to confront her own darkness and fight for her survival while revealing the truth about her father's past.

Frank the Bastard is a character-driven, slow-burning thriller, and a great choice for viewers looking for a suspenseful mystery with an atmospheric backdrop. Although it may not be the most action-packed movie, its offbeat characters, subdued storyline, and eerie setting make for a compelling watch.

Frank the Bastard is a 2015 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 51 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.0 and a MetaScore of 39.
