Fragile is a psychological thriller and horror movie that was released in 2005. It is directed by Jaume Balagueró and features Calista Flockhart, Richard Roxburgh, Elena Anaya, Gemma Jones, and Yasmin Murphy. The story is set in Mercy Falls Hospital, a pediatric unit built in an abandoned building. The hospital is run by the staff of only six people, due to its budget cuts: Amy Nicholls (Calista Flockhart), who is the nurse in charge, Roy (Richard Roxburgh) the head Doctor, Susan (Gemma Jones), and several others. The pediatric unit is due to close within a week and the patients are being transferred to a new facility. The movie takes place during this last week.

Amy Nicholls is a nurse with a tragic past that affects her work. She has a special bond with her patients, particularly Maggie (Yasmin Murphy), a girl who is confined to a wheelchair because of brittle bone disease. Maggie is the only patient remaining in the hospital, apart from a boy, Simon (Colin McFarlane), who is recovering from a fall, and a boy who is non-verbal and has not been named on the hospital records.

As the team prepare to move out, strange events start happening in the hospital. Simon reports to have seen a ghostly figure of a boy, moving around the hospital, which is starting to unsettle the already shaky nurses. Amy and Simon are also convinced that Maggie is being haunted by a ghost that only they can sense. Amy, determined to investigate the unearthly sightings, begins to uncover something more terrifying.

Amy's research uncovers the story of a young girl named Charlotte, who died in the hospital many years ago in mysterious circumstances. The reason for her death is kept secret, but it is linked with the ghostly sightings. Her investigations reveal that Charlotte's spirit is still alive in the hospital and is seeking revenge. While unraveling the secrets of the past and present, Amy finds herself facing an unknown and terrifying adversary. Notwithstanding, Amy is determined to save the patients still in the hospital, and uncovers the dark secrets of their past.

The storyline of Fragile is compelling, and the characters of nurses and patients pull at the heartstrings. The cinematography is impressive, with the hospital's old and abandoned atmosphere adding to the intensity of the movie. Furthermore, the horror scenes are quite unnerving and will keep viewers on edge. The sinister elements of the movie are well blended with the human interest storyline.

The film's standout performance is given by Calista Flockhart, who carries the movie on her shoulders with ease. She skillfully plays the determined and emotional nurse who is both the hero and the victim of the story. Richard Roxburgh is cast well as the head doctor, who is frail and weak. There is no needless jump scares and gore in Fragile, but the atmosphere of suspense keeps the audience engaged.

In conclusion, Fragile is a well-developed horror film which does not disappoint. A heart-wrenching human story intertwined with the horror genre makes Fragile one of the stand-out horror movies of the 2000s. It is a must-watch for those who enjoy a good horror movie with an ongoing psychological thriller. The movie also reveals the consequences of neglect of patients' well-being that goes beyond their physical health.

Fragile is a 2005 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 33 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.0.
