Life is difficult for a young girl growing up the poor village of Kawaguchi. She might work hard and be creative just to receive a basic education. She dreams of so much more than working in the local foundry. This Japanese film was entered in the Cannes Film Festival and also won a Blue Ribbon Award in 1962.
