Force of Nature is a gripping survival movie that takes place in Puerto Rico as a Category 5 hurricane is about to hit the island. The movie stars Emile Hirsch playing the role of a cop named Cardillo, who is tasked with evacuating civilians from a high-rise building amidst the dangerous storm. However, the plan quickly takes an unexpected turn when a group of thieves led by John the Baptist (David Zayas), a ruthless criminal mastermind, tries to break into the building to steal a valuable painting belonging to one of the residents.

As Cardillo and his partner Jess (Stephanie Cayo) try to secure the building and get the residents out safely, they encounter Ray (Mel Gibson), a retired cop struggling with dementia who refuses to leave his apartment. A gruff and quirky character, Ray soon proves to be more than meets the eye, and he becomes an invaluable asset to the team when the real threat to their survival reveals itself.

One of the most compelling aspects of Force of Nature is its intense action sequences. With the hurricane raging outside and the threat of the thieves inside, Cardillo and his team must fight for their lives against impossible odds. The fight scenes are well-choreographed and suspenseful, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats throughout the movie. The special effects are also noteworthy, especially in portraying the brutality of a natural disaster.

Alongside the action, Force of Nature also delves into deeper themes of redemption and sacrifice. Ray, in particular, is a complex character whose past mistakes haunt him, and he sees this harrowing experience as an opportunity for redemption, even if it means putting his life on the line. Similarly, Jess is a survivor of abuse who becomes a formidable force against the thieves, demonstrating her fierce determination and resilience.

The dynamic between the characters adds an extra layer of interest to the movie, as they each bring their unique perspectives and strengths to the team. Cardillo is a skilled but stubborn cop who must learn to work with others, while Jess is a savvy survivor who understands the importance of teamwork. Meanwhile, Ray's unconventional methods and quirks often serve as a foil to the others' more conventional strategies.

The performances from the cast are also commendable, especially Gibson's portrayal of Ray. He brings a depth and sincerity to the character that humanizes him, making him more relatable, even as he grapples with his memory loss. Hirsch also delivers a convincing performance as the conflicted Cardillo, while Zayas's John the Baptist is suitably menacing as the villain.

Overall, Force of Nature is a thrilling and suspenseful movie that combines high-stakes action with complex characters and themes. The hurricane serves as a backdrop to a story about redemption, sacrifice, and the triumph of the human spirit, making it a memorable and emotional watch.

Force of Nature is a 2020 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 31 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.6 and a MetaScore of 29.
